Tjarnarbíó, Reykjavík

April 9th - 17th 2015

What's your place on the chessboard? Are you in control of your own life, or is someone else directing it?

Travel with the colorful creatures of Wonderland through a dreamlike world searching to answer these questions.

Carroll Berserkur is an original devised production about the different sides of the human being explored through the colorful creatures of Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland. What do we show, and what do we feel must remain hidden?

The characters and their habitats play with questions of social norms, culture of humiliation and taboos through this immersive and participatory theatre piece. The audience journey through a dreamlike world where unexpected scenes emerge in search to answer these questions.

Lewis Carroll's playful writing was used in conjunction with Nordic poetry, rituals and folk stories for this experimental performance to combine our reality with Alice's fictional Wonderland.

The audience walked through the different spaces of Tjarnarbíó for 90 minutes.

The performance was mainly in Icelandic. The production was not recommended for children under the age of 15.

I never would have imagined so many creatures living in that little house

Research and Development sharing

Drayton Arms Theatre August 2014

Carroll: Berserk was the research and development sharing that lead us to Carroll: Berserkur.

An original devised piece which blurs the boundaries between reality and the fiction of Alice's Wonderland.

The landscape of Carroll's storytelling created an interesting base for the physical and experimental style of our company, embracing his nonsense, playfulness and rhythmical style. We emphasized the role of identity within Carroll's writing.

Alice grows and shrinks as she is confronted with creatures and events from her own life that are playfully represented through the colorful characters from Lewis Carroll's literature. We devised from our own Identity, and events from the author's life, to tell the stories of different Alices.
